Reef Shimmer Oil is blended with light reflecting mica minerals for a beautiful sun-kissed glow and helps promote a tan in the sun whilst giving you a bronze glow.
There is no glitter in Reef Shimmer Oil. The sparkles in Reef Shimmer Oil are made from mica (which is a mineral ingredient) and doesn’t cause plastic pollution in the ocean.
Each Reef product, whether it is an oil or lotion format, is intended to be used singularly. There is no need to layer Reef products. All you need to do is to pick the right product for you.
Applying tanning oil and getting the right amount of safe sun exposure may help you achieve a deeper tan faster. The SPF 15 and SPF30 products help protect the skin by blocking UV rays, however they don’t completely block out 100% of UV rays, so the skin will still tan, just to a lesser extent compared to not wearing any sunscreen at all or applying sun product with a lower sun protection factor (SPF).
Different skin types burn at different rates, so we are unable to say how many hours it will take for you to tan. It is always recommended to avoid prolonged exposures to the sun.
In Australia, products that claim sunscreening benefits are regulated by the government body, the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Reef sunscreens are included on the ARTG and are permitted to make sun protection claims dependent of the SPF level they provide. Reef sunscreens meet the Australian/New Zealand standard 2604:2012 which came into force in May 2012.
Yes, all Reef products are made in Australia for Aussie and Kiwi skin.

All Reef Sunscreens are suitable for use during pregnancy, as it is applied to the top of the skin. You may find that during pregnancy your skin responds differently to topical products, so we recommend when trying any new product for the first time, you perform a patch test by applying it on a small area of skin to determine its suitability for your skin type before applying it on a large area. However, if you are concerned, please consult your health professional.
Fake tanning products are lotions, creams, or sprays that simulate a suntan by dyeing the outer layer of skin. Fake tanning lotion does not improve your body’s ability to protect itself from the sun, so you will still need sun protection. Reef sunscreens, applied correctly can provide sun protection SPF 15- 50.
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is a measure of the level of protection against sunburn that sunscreen provides. The higher the SPF, the better the protection from ultraviolet radiation. The maximum SPF of sunscreens sold in Australia is 50+.
UVB radiation penetrates the top layer of skin and is the main cause of sunburn. All Reef sunscreens have high UVA & UVB protection.
